Keystone Colorado Winter Weekend Getaway
What a great weekend getaway to Keystone Colorado! Its just a short drive from Denver, a bit more than an hour, but a complete escape from the city. We rented a condo at the Lakeside Village right on Keystone Lake, which is frozen in February of course. The condo could use some updating but it had all the conveniences and was within walking distance to some restaurants and all the activities around the lake.
We hauled in our own food for most meals while we were there but we did get out for a pizza one night at one of the restaurants near by (ie we walked there). Low key place with good food and we were happy to not have to go far.
The highlight of the weekend getaway for me was the frozen lake right next to our condo. The lights are on until around 10pm for ice skating and pickup hockey. There is a complete hockey rink set up on the ice all winter and plenty of people around for a pickup game. My son and I hooked up with an eclectic mix of people for a thoroughly enjoyable game for more than an hour. The next morning, we stepped outside the condo and got on the Keystone bus for the slopes. The bus dropped us right off at the lifts for a great day of skiing.
While this was a great weekend getaway in the winter, the area looks great for a summer weekend getaway as well. There are bike trails, fly fishing, hiking and more. We’ll be back!
